Australia Supports Cambodia to Improve Physical Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

Physical accessibility in Cambodia for persons with disabilities is significantly improving thanks to the support by Australian Government.

The Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh noted the achievement recently.

The milestone was made possible through the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) Programme carried out by the Disability Action Council Secretariat General (DAC-SG) in cooperation with Humanity & Inclusion (HI).

The achievement breakdown include the national launch of the technical standards on physical accessibility and the rollout of training of trainers to national and sub-national levels.

It also covers the production of five animation clips to raise public awareness of the importance of physical accessibility standards and the construction of 25 accessible ramps as a physical accessibility engineering model.

As part of the effort, ACCESS recently supported a dissemination workshop for engineering and architecture students on the Physical Infrastructure Design Standards on Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities.

The workshop promoted the implementation of the technical standards and encouraged the students to participate in a design competition focused on physical accessibility standards.
