Cambodian PM Expresses Concern over Europeanisation of Russia-Ukraine War

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen expressed his personal concern over the possible Europeanisation of the Russia-Ukraine War.
Addressing to the inauguration ceremony of the Phnom Penh-Kampot portion of National Road No. 3 held in Takeo province this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said before it was an attack of Russia on Ukraine, but now many European nations have announced to provide weapons, troops and fighter aircrafts to assist Ukraine in the war, which is an encouragement for war.
“We cannot use war to stop war,” reiterated the Cambodian Premier. “Cambodia does not support the use of military forces or threat of using forces against any parties.”
“Cambodia, in the new world order, opposes the use of military forces, but encourages peaceful dialogue, and hopes that both friends (Russia and Ukraine) will understand Cambodia’s position. Cambodia should not be forced to take any side,” he underlined.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he still believes in negotiations and there is still more room for negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Anyway, the Prime Minister stressed that this is his personal point of view which does not represent that of ASEAN.
In the context of ASEAN, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that holding the ASEAN chairmanship this year is not an easy task as there are a lot of issues to pay attention to. “One issue is not over yet, but another one happens and when one is happening, another is coming as well,” he added, taking as example from the COC (Code of Conduct in the South China Sea) to the Myanmar’s crisis, and now the Russia-Ukraine war.
