Four City and Districts of Pursat Province Declare Mine-Free

Pursat city and the districts of Bakan, Krakor, and Kandieng in Pursat province have obtained the mine-free status under the “Mine-Free Cambodia 2025 Fund”.

H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy, High Representative of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, presided over the mine-free declaration ceremony held on June 22.

A total of 96 mine fields or almost 2.4 million square metres have been cleared by the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) team, detecting and destroying 40,409 anti-personnel mines, 10 anti-tank mines and nearly 13,000 UXO.

Under the “Mine-Free Cambodia 2025 Fund, CMAC has been tasked with mine clearance mission in five provinces: Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Pursat and Pailin. For Pursat province, CMAC has started deploying its operational forces in January 2023.

Pursat has to liberate three other districts from landmines before being able to declare a mine-free province.
