Helmet Exchange Prog To Raise Safety Of Consumers


JOHOR BAHRU, The free helmet exchange programme at every MADANI Rakyat Programme not only gives people the opportunity to get a new helmet, but also improve the safety of motorcyclists and pillion riders by using SIRIM-approved helmets.

Johor Road Transport Department (RTD) deputy director Mohd Edir Sanip said helmets with SIRIM certification have been tested for their durability and effectiveness to provide protection to motorcyclists in the event of an accident.

“Yesterday alone, more than 1,000 helmets were distributed to the public. Today that number has increased to over 1,500 helmets exchanged and the figure is expected to increase due to public awareness of the importance of wearing helmets that meet specifications.

“It is hoped that the implementation of this programme can minimise injuries suffered by motorcyclists and pillion riders if they are involved in road accidents,” he said when met by Bernama here today.

He said a total of 5,000 free helmets were provided at the Johor JPJ stall in conju
nction with the Southern Zone 2024 MADANI Rakyat Programme, at Dataran UTM, Skudai from yesterday until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bernama’s survey found that people, including the elderly and children, were crowding RTD’s stall as early as 9 am to get their new helmets.

One of the visitors, Fauziah Abdullah, 60, came to the stall with her son to change her old helmet had worn out.

“I found out from a television programme earlier that there is a helmet exchange programme here. Alhamdulillah, I got a new helmet for free for daily use, going to the mosque and to the shop and so on and feel more confident and safe,” said Fauziah, who lives in Skudai, Johor Bahru.

Elderly couple, Yong Lin Tai and Choi Won Ngok from Skudai, also did not miss the opportunity to change their helmets and expressed their appreciation to RTD for implementing the programme and praised the smoothness of the process.

Another visitor, Yanti Isin, 37, said she went straight to the location after seeing the promotion of the programme on socia
l media this morning with her son Muhammad Fareez Mohd Jumadhil Fadhli, 8, to get a new helmet.

The Southern Zone MADANI Rakyat Programme is an occasion for the government to inform and publicise the achievements and benefits of the MADANI Economy to the people through various initiatives and continuous commitment in empowering the people, entrepreneurs and industry.
