The ASEAN and U.S. Leaders have reiterated their call for compliance with the UN Charter and international law in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

“With regard to Ukraine, as for all nations, we continue to reaffirm our respect for sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity. We reiterate our call for compliance with the UN Charter and international law,” said the Leaders at the Special ASEAN-U.S. Summit held in Washington, D.C. on May 12-13, 2022 under the co-chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and ASEAN Chair 2022 and U.S. President H.E. Joe Biden.

“We underline the importance of an immediate cessation of hostilities and creating an enabling environment for peaceful resolution. We support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General in the search for a peaceful solution,” the added.

The ASEAN and U.S. leaders also called for the facilitation of rapid, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian assistance for those in need in Ukraine, and for the protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel, and persons in vulnerable situations.
