KUALA NERANG, Villager Moh Sofi Rhazalee, 39, who was returning from buying breakfast described seeing two people struggling in the fast-flowing floodwaters in Kampung Tanjung Kiri earlier today.
Mohd Sofi recounted how he spotted single mother, Salmah Mat Zain, 46, and her 19-year-old son, Muhammad Rosman Rohadi, clinging to a rubber tree as they attempted to cross the flood. He shouted for them to turn back but Salmah lost her grip and her son, who has a disability, tried to pull her back. Despite efforts from Sofi and other villagers to call out to them, they received no response and were eventually swept away by the currents.
It is reported that the mother and son rode their motorcycle over three kilometres to buy nasi lemak after the main road was flooded. However, on their way back home, they parked their motorcycle at a resident’s house and attempted to brave the floodwaters in the flooded area.
Meanwhile, a search and rescue operation for the two victims is ongoing, involving personnel from the fi
re department, police and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.
