184 Cambodian Peacekeepers Awarded with Decorations

AKP Phnom Penh, Royal Government of Cambodia has conferred decorations upon 184 blue helmet troops of the Engineering Unit 963 who had fulfilled successfully their one-year United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

Official decoration conferment ceremony took place yesterday here in Phnom Penh under the presidency of SamdechPicheySena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence.

Addressing the function, Samdech Tea Banh appreciated the endeavour of Cambodian peacekeepers in not only peacekeeping operations, but also promoting good collaboration with countries in the world.

That effort, he continued, is Cambodia's great achievement and pride in the international arenas, making them very deserved for the honorary recognition.

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, who also attended the event spoke highly of Cambodia for its significant contribution to world's humanitarian actions.

According to Gen. SemSovanny, Director General of Cambodia's National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines and ERW Clearance (NPMEC), the recognised Cambodian troops were tasked with services such as construction of facilities for public service provision, blue barrel demarcation, and mine clearance.

By far, Cambodia has deployed a total of 5,969 troops � 290 of them are women � for UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Central African Republic, Lebanon, Mali, Syria and Cyprus.
