1st Session of JWG between Cambodia and EEC Held in Phnom Penh

Cambodia hosted here yesterday the 1st Session of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) to promote the bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was co?chaired by Cambodian Commerce Secretary of State H.E. Mrs. Tekreth Kamrang, and a member of the Board (Minister) for Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC, H.E. Ms. Tatiana Valovaya.

According to the Ministry of Commerce’s press release, in the meeting, the parties discussed important topics including trade and investment, sanitary, phyto?sanitary and veterinary measures, technical regulations application, and customs and trade facilitation. They also exchanged the information in the field of intellectual property, and agricultural and industrial cooperation as well as welcomed the private sector partnership initiatives of both sides.

In addition, the parties pledged to invite officers and business communities to attend major economic forums which are to be held in either the Kingdom or the EAEU. EEC recognised Cambodia’s intention in conducting a joint feasibility study on Cambodia-EAEU’s Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which Cambodia will be notified the results of the issues in the future conferences held by the EAEU Member States.

At the end of the meeting, the senior officials of the JWGs agreed to set the 2nd Session in Moscow, the Russian Federation, to take stock work progress and strengthen the cooperation.

This meeting was held under the framework of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Royal Government of Cambodia and EEC which was signed by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Tigran Sargsyan, Chairman of the Board of the EEC, on May 17, 2016, in Moscow, the Russian Federation.
