Cambodia reported 799 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) this morning, of which 97 were imported, according to a press release of the Ministry of Health.
The total confirmed cases in the Kingdom thus jumped to 41,581, including 1,617 imported cases.
At the same time, 910 more patients have successfully recovered; bringing the total number of cured cases to 35,940.
Besides, COVID-19 killed 14 more people; the total fatal cases therefore rose to 394.
The first COVID-19 case was detected in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province. The confirmed cases have surged quickly this year due to the Feb. 20 community outbreak.

The French government and private sector will continue to contribute with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to boosting inclusive development in the Kingdom.
The commitment was highlighted by outgoing French Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Mrs. Eva Nguyen Binh while paying a farewell visit to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh this morning, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Premier.
France will also continue its cooperation with Cambodia, especially in the areas of health, human resource development, culture, and peacekeeping operations under the UN umbrella, affirmed the outgoing ambassador.
H.E. Mrs. Eva Nguyen Binh lauded peace, stability and development of Cambodia as well as the precise strategy to combat COVID-19 pandemic.
She added that during her four-year diplomatic mission, she has had open and honest discussions with Samdech Techo Prime Minister and Cambodian officials at all levels, which is the main factor for the success of her mission.
H.E. Mrs. Eva Nguyen Binh congratulated the RGC on the success in the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and thanked the RGC for providing vaccination for foreigners in Cambodia. This kindness has been acknowledged and highly praised by all embassies, she stressed.
In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of H.E. Mrs. Eva Nguyen Binh’s efforts in strengthening and expanding the relations and cooperation between the two nations.
The Premier expressed his gratitude to the French government for its support for the development of Cambodia, particularly in the fields of human resource training, science, and the fight against COVID-19, during which the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia has been playing a key role.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed the RGC’s strategy to provide COVID-19 vaccination for all people in Cambodia, both Cambodians and foreigners.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen today extended his deepest condolences to the family of legendary Ayay singer Toeung Vann, known as Ta Salat, who passed away this morning.
“I and my spouse are very saddened to learn that Mr. Toeung Vann, aka Ta Salat, a legendary Ayay singer, passed away on June 18, at 8:00 am at the age of 81 years old,” wrote Samdech Techo Hun Sen in his condolence letter.
This is the loss of a great artist who has promoted Cambodian culture, especially the art of Ayay, he underlined.

Lokta Salat is one of the well-known artists who have devoted their life for the legendary Ayai, a unique traditional Khmer comedian song.

The Mekong River Commission (MRC) says torrential rains caused a “big jump” in Mekong water levels in the week to Wednesday.
In a statement released Friday, the MRC Secretariat in Vientiane said: “Water levels have increased significantly over the last seven days but some sections will see a slight dip over the next five days.”
“Heavy rainfall throughout the Mekong region that started at the beginning of June has contributed to the rise, with recorded river levels at most monitoring stations above their long-term values.”
Dr. Lam Hong Son — head of the MRC’s Regional Flood and Drought Management Centre in Phnom Penh — said the region’s average rainfall this month was about 60 percent higher than the same periods in 2019 and 2020.
Dr. Son said tropical storm Koguma caused flash floods in many areas of Laos last weekend, triggering landslides and widespread damage to property.
In Cambodia, the MRC said water levels between Stung Treng and Neak Loeung reportedly rose by 0.65 metres between June 9 and 16.
During the next five days, water levels are forecast to rise by a further 0.60 metres.
In the Vietnamese border towns of Tan Chau on the Mekong and Chau Doc on the Bassac, water levels were close to long-term values reflecting tidal effects.
In China, outflows at Jinghong hydrological station saw a “slight fluctuation” between June 9 and 16.
“This followed rapid variations between the middle and end of May that saw an average drop of 1.33 metres per day in the water level,” the MRC statement said.
