Cambodia, Australia Discuss Green Cooperation

Cambodia and Australia have convened a meeting to discuss about climate change issues.
The meeting took place recently through a videoconference with the participation of H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment, Mr. James Larsen, Climate Coordinator and H.E. Pablo Kang, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia.
The meeting focused mainly on the perspectives of Cambodia and Australia for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference.
Mr. James Larsen briefed H.E. Say Samal that Australia has so far provided supports to countries along Mekong River including Cambodia on water management and environmental education.
In the 26th Conference, Australia will support Britain to organise a face-to-face meeting to facilitate direct discussion among all member states, continued the climate coordinator.
Australia also initiated a discussion on hydro power supply in the upcoming conference to contribute to reducing gas emission to zero by 2050.
From his end, H.E. Say Samal underlined continuing effort of the Royal Government of Cambodia in environmental management, tackling of climate change and national economic development.
He also asked the Australian side to establish a centre for information sharing on hydrogen energy through engagement with concerned ministries, research institutions of Cambodia and Australia, and to formulate a roadmap for economic collaboration between the two countries.

Cambodia, Japan Meet to Boost Investment in Cambodia

Cambodia and Japan have convened the 22nd meeting of a joint committee to further boost investment in Cambodia.
The meeting took place early this week via videoconference under the chairmanship of H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and H.E. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.
Some 130 representatives from concerned ministries and institutions, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), the Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC), and from Japanese firms in Cambodia joined the virtual meeting.
The meeting touched mainly on a minimum wage and seniority payment, tax obligation, logistics, electricity supply and price, vehicle import, human resources development cooperation and workshop to promote supply chain database understanding.
H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea spoke highly of Japan’s investment in Cambodia in all sectors, especially in the field of non-textile manufacturing, adding that this investment reflects the confidence from the Japanese investors in the country.
The minister was positive that ANA airline will resume its direct flights between Cambodia and Japan shortly, which will contribute essentially to increasing trade volume and investment between the two countries.
H.E. MIKAMI Masahiro appreciated Cambodia’s effort in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and facilitating good investment environment for foreign investors, particularly those from Japan.
In the meeting, the Japanese investors also pledged to increase investment in Cambodia in order to help restore the country’s economy when COVID-19 eases.

Agreement to Launch Digital School System “Wiki School” Signed

The National Institute of Education (NIE) and POSCAR Digital Co., Ltd. have entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a digital school system, so-called Wiki School.
The MoU signing ceremony took place yesterday virtually via Zoom under the presidency of H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports.
The initiative aims at promoting good governance and e-management at teacher training institutions and schools to further enhance Cambodia’s digital economy and society.

Business Registration System on Information Technology Platform (OBR) Phase 2 Launched

The Royal Government of Cambodia this morning launched the Business Registration System on Information Technology Platform (OBR) Phase 2 to enhance the quality of user experience and to expand the scope of easing the business registration process through time and fees reduction, and shifting to online, packaged registration procedure with the concerned ministries and institutions.
The launching ceremony was held virtually under the presidency of H.E Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance.
Collaborated with the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Non-Banking Financial Services Authority, through the OBR Phase 2, users can apply for Prakas to Establish Small and Medium Enterprise, Tour Operator and Travel Agent Tourism Licence, Hotel and Accommodation Service Tourism Licence, and Restaurant Tourism Licence, pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Licence/Certificate/Permit to Operate in ICT Sector, Licence/Certificate/Permit to Operate in Post Sector, Pawn Business Licence, and Transfer-of-Title Business Licence can also be applied for, it added.
To be able to apply, it underlined, users need to visit www.registrationservices.gov.kh or the websites of the relevant ministries/institutions, login by using the CamDigiKey mobile application, pay online, and obtain a legally-valid, digital licence/certificate/permit/Prakas.
The Business Registration System on Information Technology Platform (OBR) Phase 1 was officially launched on June 15, 2020.
According to the press release, the spontaneous data exchange between OBR Phase 1 and Phase 2 is made possible by the data exchange between relevant ministries/institutions on the Cambodia Data Exchange Platform (CamDX).
This does not only foster better user experience in filling out the application form but also stands as the positive feature that allows relevant ministries/institutions to reduce the review period and to ensure data consistency across relevant ministries/institutions, it stated.
This is a crucial course of action taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia, in realising the vision of building a vibrant digital society and economy by using technology as a core of the implementation, it stressed.
For the next step, the working group will continue to work with other relevant ministries/institutions to further expand the scope of the OBR platform to later phases by enabling users to apply for other specialised licences in the near future, said the same source.

COVID-19: Tally Increases to 93,510 with 455 New Infections

Cambodia this morning reported 455 new cases of COVID-19; bringing the national counts to 93,510, announced the Ministry of Health in a press release.
Of the new confirmed cases, 80 were imported while the rest were linked to the Feb. 20 community outbreak, it said.
Meanwhile, 328 new recoveries, but 13 new deaths were registered; the total recovered and death cases in the Kingdom jumped to 89,114 and 1,916, respectively.
The first COVID-19 case was detected in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province. The confirmed cases have surged quickly this year due to the Feb. 20 Community Event.
