Cambodian PM Receives Courtesy Call from Thai Foreign Minister

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here at the Peace Palace this morning visiting H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, in the courtesy meeting, the Thai foreign minister conveyed greetings and congratulations from Thai Prime Minister H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha to Samdech Techo Hun Sen who will assume the role of ASEAN Chair in 2022.
H.E. Don Pramudwinai also lauded Cambodia’s success on COVID-19 control and vaccination policy, as well as the rapid development of Cambodia.
In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked his Thai counterpart for the greetings and congratulations, and informed his guest of the key goals of Cambodia as the ASEAN Chair next year, i.e. fight against the COVID-19 pandemic to resume social and economic activities, promote people-to-people connectivity, and strengthen the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the ASEAN member countries.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister also laid stress on Cambodia’s stance on the South China Sea issue – push for strict implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), boost negotiations between concerned parties, and strive to conclude the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC).
H.E. Don Pramudwinai arrived in Phnom Penh last night to pay an official visit and co-chair with his Cambodian counterpart H.E. Prak Sokhonn, the 11th Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (11th JC Meeting) between Cambodia and Thailand until Dec. 18.

COVID-19: Death Cases Exceed 3,000 Mark

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed a total of 3,001 lives in Cambodia since the first confirmed case was detected in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Health issued this morning, 3 new COVID-19 deaths were reported, 2 of them have not been vaccinated.
At the same time, the ministry announced the detection of 8 new infections of COVID-19; bringing the tally to 120,405.
Fortunately, it pointed out, 12 more patients have successfully been cured; the total recovered cases in the Kingdom thus rose to 116,771.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Health once again reminded people aged from 5 years old and over to get the basic doses of COVID-19 vaccine and those aged 18 years old and over to receive the booster doses.
As of Dec. 16, some 88.88 percent of the total Cambodian population of 16 million have been inoculated against the pandemic.

PM Hun Sen Speaks Highly of Lao Ambassador’s Mission in Cambodia

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has highly evaluated the three-year diplomatic mission of H.E. Amphay Kindavong in the Kingdom.
The mission has contributed significantly to the strengthening and expansion of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, underlined the Prime Minister while receiving a farewell visit from the outgoing Lao Ambassador at the Peace Palace here this morning.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also wished H.E. Amphay Kindavong more success in his next mission, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.
For his part, the outgoing Lao diplomat profoundly thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen and other Cambodian leaders as well as the Cambodian people for their support and cooperation for the success of his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom.
H.E. Amphay Kindavong also congratulated Cambodia for the rapid development and for the success in hosting the 13th ASEM Summit, and wish the Kingdom more success in holding the ASEAN chairmanship in 2022.
He expressed his gratitude to the Cambodian government and people for their humanitarian assistance in cash, vaccines, medical materials, etc. to contribute to combating the COVID-19 pandemic in Laos.

Cambodia, China Boost Investment, Economic and Trade Cooperation

Cambodia and China have established a working group on investment and economic cooperation, tasked mainly to promote bilateral economic and trade relations, strengthen investment and economic cooperation.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the working group establishment was signed here on Dec. 16 by H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), H.E. Sok Sopheak, Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, and H.E. Ren Hongbin, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea was optimistic that the MoU will boost bilateral investment and trade between the two countries in line with the agreement made by the two Heads of Government on Nov. 15, 2021.
He also briefed the Chinese side on the country’s promulgation of new Investment Law, resumption of business activities and post-COVID-19 economic recovery efforts, reflected by high vaccination rate and investors’ and tourists’ trust.
He also emphasised the achievement of investment cooperation between the two countries through large amount of Chinese investment, making China at the top of the list of foreign investors in Cambodia, which will help promote and accelerate the Kingdom’s ability for socio-economic recovery after the COVID-19 crisis.

Cambodia, U.S. Discuss Priorities of Bilateral Development Cooperation

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States of America have discussed the priorities of bilateral development cooperation as well as exchange views on related aspects.
The discussion was held yesterday between H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minster Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary of General of the Cambodia Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC) and H.E. W. Patrick Murphy, U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia.
On the occasion, H.E. Chhieng Yanara warmly welcomed H.E. Ambassador and congratulated Ms. Nancy J. Eslick, the newly Mission Director of USAID, for being appointed by the U.S. government to fulfill her mission in Cambodia. H.E. Minister, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), highly valued the achievements made by the U.S. government and people in supporting both technical and financial in health, education, agriculture, environment and governance and cross-cutting sector, particularly the grant commitment of US$15 million and 1.06 million doses of COVID-19’s vaccine (Johnson & Johnson) in supporting Cambodia’s COVID-19 responses and socio-economic recovery.
H.E. Ambassador highly praised the RGC for its efforts and achievements in Cambodia’s development especially the well-control of the spread of the COVID-19 and the achievement to provide COVID-19 vaccine to the Cambodia people and foreigners who are currently residing and working in Cambodia. He also introduced the newly Mission Director of USAID Ms. Nancy J. Eslick who begins the mission in Cambodia from now on, and highly valued and praised the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) for excellent coordination and partnership with the U.S. government so far through the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, USAID Cambodia Office and other agencies of the U.S. Ms. Nancy J. Eslick expressed her pleasure for being appointed to begin the mission in Cambodia and committed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and partnership.
Both sides discussed the priorities of bilateral development cooperation and the New Draft Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAGs 2021-2025) between the RGC and the U.S. government which is scheduled to conclude the negotiation and is ready to sign during the first quarter of 2022. Under this agreement, the U.S. government plans to provide approximately US$300 million to support health, education, agriculture, and environment sectors for the five-year period.
In addition, both sides also discussed and exchanged viewed on a number of related aspects including the impact of COVID-19, boosting trade and exports between the two countries, environment, agriculture, food security and nutrition, and the Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022.
Before concluding the meeting, both sides expressed their firm commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation and partnership for sustainable and inclusive development in Cambodia. H.E. Chhieng Yanara expressed his sincere appreciations and wished H.E. W. Patrick Murphy and Ms. Nancy J. Eslick, success in their diplomatic mission in Cambodia.
