Cambodia, ADB Discuss Trade and Competitiveness Programme

Ministry of Commerce and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have discussed the bank’s technical assistance for the implementation of the Cambodia Trade and Competitiveness Programme.
The virtual discussion with the ADB’s sector delegation was chaired by Commerce Secretary of State H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang recently.
Under the policy-based technical assistance, Cambodia will lead the reform of key relevant institutions to accelerate the country’s economy as well as to enhance competitiveness.
The assistance will also promote knowledge and support policy improvement.
H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang expressed her appreciation of ADB’s continuous financial and technical assistance very well aligned with the ministry’s priorities, including the mentioned programme.

Cambodia to Export Milled Rice under New Quota to China

Cambodia will export 400,000 tonnes of milled rice to China under a new quota, according to the Cambodia Rice Federation.
The export agreement was signed in November 2021 and is executed from December 2021 onward for 17 months, said Mr. Hun Lak, Chairman of the Board of the Cambodia Rice Federation.
According to the chairman, China’s quota for milled rice export from Cambodia for 2014 to 2021 helped boost the agricultural harvests significantly.
So far, Cambodia’s milled rice was exported to 41 countries around the world, and China remains the biggest market absorbing about 50 percent.
Other major markets are 19 countries in Europe and three countries in ASEAN, which are Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
In the first 11 months of 2021, Cambodia exported 532,179 tonnes of milled rice, generating US$366 million.

Light Rain and Low Temperature Expected

Cambodia would experience light to moderate rain on Dec. 23-26 and the temperature as low as 15 degrees Celsius on Dec. 27-28.
The condition due to the high pressure and Northeast monsoon was notified by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology in a new weather forecast released on Dec. 21.
The provinces next to the Dangrek mountain range and north-eastern highland areas would see the lowest minimum temperature at around 15-17 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature would be from 24 to 26 Degrees Celsius.
During the same period, in the central lowland areas, the temperature would vary between 16 and 26 degrees Celsius.
The coastal regions will experience the temperature from 17 to 28 degrees Celsius.

Cambodian NA President Speaks Highly of Vietnamese President’s State Visit

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, has lauded the state visit of H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in Cambodia.
The state visit will contribute to further fostering the ties of friendship, traditional solidarity and good cooperation in all sectors between both countries, underlined Samdech Heng Samrin in a courtesy meeting with the visiting Vietnamese president at the NA Palace here yesterday afternoon.
The Cambodian NA president added that bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam continued smoothly despite the COVID-19 pandemic, along with information sharing and mutual support in combating the disease.
H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated historical achievements that Cambodia and Vietnam, both the legislative and executive bodies, have attained. He also spoke highly of the key contribution of Samdech Heng Samrin in boosting the parliamentary cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.
After the meeting, both leaders presided over the ground breaking ceremony of the NA’s 12-storey administrative building whose construction is funded by Vietnam’s assistance of US$25 million.

COVID-19: 3 New Cases, 9 New Recoveries, 1 New Death

Cambodia this morning reported only 3 new infections of COVID-19; bringing the tally to 120,430, pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Health.
According to the same source, these are PCR test results, one of which was imported and the rest were locally transmitted cases.
Besides, the ministry announced the recovery of 9 more patients, but a new death (not vaccinated); the total cured and death cases in the Kingdom thus stood at 116,824 and 3,006, respectively.
The first COVID-19 case was detected in Cambodia in late January 2020 in Preah Sihanouk province.
