President of Timor-Leste Begins State Visit in Cambodia

H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, this morning started his state visit in Cambodia, at the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia.
The president was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at Phnom Penh Intenrational Airport by Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Royal Palace, and H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunication as Minister-in-Attendance.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to Cambodia, during his stay in Cambodia from Oct. 19-21, H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA will be granted a Royal Audience by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia, at the Royal Palace.
H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA will receive separate courtesy calls by Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY CHHUM, President of the Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the National Assembly, and Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister and H.E. the President of Timor-Leste will preside over the signing ceremony of two bilateral documents, namely: Air Services Agreement, and the Memorandum of Understanding on Rice Trade between the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA will also lay wreath at the Independence Monument and the Royal Memorial Statue of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah NORODOM SIHANOUK «PREAH BOROM RATANAK KAUDH», the late King-Father of Cambodia.
Availing his stay in Phnom Penh, H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA will receive a courtesy call by H.E. Dr. HUN MANET, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, deliver public lectures at some outstanding universities in Phnom Penh, and grant interviews with local media outlets as well as deliver remarks at the first Cambodia-Timor-Leste Forum on Tourism and Trade for Sustainable Peace and Development.
The state visit of H.E. Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL RAMOS-HORTA will further strengthen and deepen the relations and cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks for mutual benefits of the two countries, underlined the press release.

Eight Countries to Participate in Bokator at SEA Games 2023

Seven or eight countries will participate in a competition of Bokator at the SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia.
The update was shared by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) in a meeting with Mr. Tanayut Jongsukkaijai, President of Pencak Silat of Surin province here in Phnom Penh recently.
Those countries include Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam; and Cambodia is also coordinating with other countries like Timor-Leste to join the games as well, said the secretary general.
Thailand’s Surin province is interested in Cambodia’s Bokator and planned to send a coach from Surin to Cambodia and bring one from Cambodia to Surin for exchange training.
Cambodia will establish a Southeast Asian Bokator Federation to further boost the sport to another level ahead of the SEA Games, he added.

Over 3,000 Cambodian Troops Deployed for UN Peacekeeping Missions from 2018 to First Nine Months of 2022

From 2018 to the third quarter of 2022, Cambodia has sent in total 3,312 troops, 350 of them are female, for the UN peacekeeping missions in five countries.
The update was shared by H.E. Chhum Socheat, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence at a press conference here in Phnom Penh on Oct. 18.
The five countries are Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Mali and Central African Republic, said the spokesperson.
There are currently 801 Cambodian peacekeepers, including 118 women, undertaking their UN missions in the five above-said countries.
Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed 8,302 forces (580 are women) to carry out UN peacekeeping missions in nine countries – Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Mali, and Yemen.
According to an assessment of the United Nations in late 2021, Cambodia was ranked 28th out of 122 countries contributing forces for the UN peacekeeping operations, and 13th for female troop deployment.
In the ASEAN framework, the Kingdom was the 3rd biggest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping efforts and the 2nd largest female troop contributor.

Cambodia Urges More Korean Investment in Textile Sector

Cambodia has asked South Korea to increase its investments in textile sector, especially in Phnom Penh capital.
The request was made by H.E. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, in a meeting with Mr. Joo Nak-young, Mayor of Gyeongju city of the Republic of Korea, here in Phnom Penh on Oct. 18.
H.E. Khuong Sreng underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia has provided favourable conditions for all foreign investors, including those from Korea.
From his end, Mr. Joo Nak-young pledged to encourage more Korean investors, particularly from Gyeongju city to invest in textile in Phnom Penh so as to further strengthen the good relations and cooperation between the two cities and countries.

Cambodia to Hold Tech Expo 2022 in November

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) is going to organise the “Cambodia Tech Expo 2022 (CTX 2022)” on Nov. 11-13, 2022 at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre (Venue1) and The Factory Phnom Penh (Venue2).
CTX 2022, a side event of the ASEAN Summit 2022, is Cambodia’s largest Tech Expo and Conferences, according to the expo’s official Facebook page.
Themed “Addressing Challenges Together through Tech Talents”, CTX 2022 is the first and leading annual programme of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
“CTX 2022 will be a great opportunity for the participants to attend the panel discussion and experience sharing sessions between experts, discover the ecosystem and potential of science, technology and innovation, expand knowledge and business networking, and especially explore investment opportunities,” said the source.
