Global Experts Shared Insights and Strategies to Accelerate Cambodians’ Digital Skill Readiness in Supporting the Cambodia Digital Transformation Agenda

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports is hosting the inaugural “Digital Transformation Cambodia Summit 2022” at Oakwood Premier Phnom Penh on Oct. 28, in collaboration with Pan-Asia Digital Skilling Platform- eduClaaS and international think-think- Confexhub Group, providing a conduit for Cambodia’s public and private sectors to gain insights to collectively recontextualise education as a global common good in supporting regional digital transformation plans and increase digital readiness and competitiveness.
According to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports’ press release issued this morning, the inaugural summit themed “Accelerating Digital Readiness” is expecting 200-odd delegates representing government officials, private sectors, trade associations, and academia involved in the country’s human resource development and digital transformation.
The summit will be inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, setting the scene on Cambodia’s direction and initiatives is shaping the future digital workforce. The summit is expected to close by H.E. Dr. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
Various analyses on the wide-ranging topics concerning building a future-ready workforce were addressed by the cream of the industry at the summit. The summit kicked off with an overview of the current trends and future directions of the global digital skill gap, followed by a series of plenary addresses introducing new approaches and solutions to bridge the gaps.
Special focused sessions on transforming the talent development ecosystem and reimagining education with innovation were discussed by renowned experts; offering the audience new ideas as well as an eye-opener on how innovative financing models and fostering tripartite relationships could help to reshape the education system, offering more affordable and inclusive education and employment to all.
In closing, the panel experts will lead a discussion of new training delivery methods for 21st-century education with an in-depth deliberation on the significant changes in training methods and the evolution of ed-tech as the importance of lifelong learning, upskilling and reskilling programmes in order to increase the region’s digital readiness and competitiveness.

20-metre-long Embankment Restoration Project in the North of Angkor Wat’s Causeway to be Completed in November

A restoration team from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology said that the 20-metre-long embankment restoration project in the north of Angkor Wat’s causeway may be completed ahead of schedule, according to a news release of the APSARA National Authority this morning.
The team claims that after the fast work of preparing the new laterite and the ancient sandstone staircases to be restored to the original location, so far only a few blocks of the upper sandstone staircase remain to be completed soon.
Ms. Nong Boravy, an archaeologist from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority, said that the embankment restoration project could be completed in November 2022 as the arrangement of the ancient sandstone staircase runs smoothly.
Ms. Nong Poravy added that currently, only about 10 percent of the work remain, such as the cleaning and filling of new sandstone to replace the old one that has been lost to stabilise the stairs.
The 20-metre-long embankment restoration project in the north of Angkor Wat’s causeway started in March 2022 and has been going on for about seven months now.
From 2013 to 2022, the APSARA National Authority has already implemented the project to restore the embankment in the north of Angkor Wat’s causeway in seven phases, with a total length of about 143 metres.

Cambodia’s GDP Growth Predicted at 6.6% Next Year

The Royal Government of Cambodia has predicted that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) would see a robust growth of 6.6 percent in 2023, supported by external demands and the return of domestic economy to normal.
The projection was mentioned in the draft of 2023 budget law, which was approved here this morning at a plenary weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The Cambodian economy in 2022 is expected to continue its growth trend compared to the growth in 2021, at 5.4 percent, despite the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war crisis, according to H.E. Phay Siphan, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Chairman of Royal Government Spokesperson Unit.
“Thanks to external demands and the return to normal of domestic economy, the Cambodian economic growth in 2023 is projected to be at 6.6 percent,” he posted on his Facebook page this morning.
Cambodia’s economic growth in 2023 will be supported by key economic sectors, including industry, services and agriculture, he said.

Draft 3-Year Rolling Public Investment Programme 2023-2025 Approved

The Cambodian cabinet ministers this morning approved the draft Three-Year Rolling Public Investment Programme (PIP) 2023-2025, said H.E. Phay Siphan, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit.
According to the draft, he continued, the total capital for the PIP 2023-2025 is about US$3,067 million annually.
There are in total 663 projects, including 189 ongoing projects that require a capital of US$5,106 million and 474 projects for the National Development Strategic Plan 2023-2025 which need a capital of US$4,115 million.
Some 43.6% of the total PIP expenditure is for the implementation of projects in the economic sector, 37.4 percent for infrastructure, 13.4% for social affairs, and 5.6 percent for services and inter-sectoral programmes.
“Based on a common vision framework that defines the indispensable role of investment in driving economic growth, we can conclude that ensuring a public investment programme that will contribute to promoting the national economic growth as a whole as well as being a policy tool for turning national priorities into reality is very necessary in the process of formulating socio-economic development policies,” the draft underlined.

Cambodia To Celebrate 18th Anniversary of King’s Coronation Tomorrow

Cambodia is going to solemnly celebrate the 18th anniversary of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni’s coronation as the King of Cambodia on Oct. 29.
Best wishes for the King have been broadcasted on TV and radio stations and printed in newspapers and magazines.
His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni succeeded to the throne on Oct. 29, 2004 by a vote of the Council of the Throne and following the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk’s abdication.
To mark the Coronation Day, Oct. 29 is set to be a public holiday by the Royal Government of Cambodia for all civil servants as well as employees and workers in the private sector.
