The Ministry of Environment plans to launch a mobile application called ‘Chakra’ to engage and inspire tree planting in Cambodia.

The plan was unveiled by Minister of Environment H.E. Eang Sophalleth on June 13.

According to the minister, the app runs similar to social media platforms like Facebook but supports tree planting as the theme for online engagement.

It allows users to take photos of the trees they plant, upload and share them, and follow up on their development.

The launch of the app was tentatively scheduled for June 24, he added.

It is expected that the initiative will inspire tree planting, especially among youth.

Cambodia and Cuba have pledged to further promote the collaboration on gender sector between the two countries.

The pledge was made in a meeting in Phnom Penh on June 12 between H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs and H.E. Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, newly appointed Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia.

H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi briefed H.E. Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra on the Royal Government’s National Action Plan on the Prevention of Violence against Women and the Neary Rattanak VI Strategic Plan, which is a roadmap to promote the gender equality, and increase the economic empowerment for women in Cambodia.

The minister informed the ambassador of her intention to lead a delegation to visit Cuba, the purposes of which are to seek understanding on and learn about Cuba’s best practices in advancing women’s situation in leadership, health and economics, particularly promoting the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Caridad Zaldivar Piedra spoke highly of the long-lasting friendship and good collaboration between the two governments in all sectors, especially in human resources development, health and foreign affairs.

They also shared their respective countries’ situations and challenges related to domestic violence, gender-based violence, health, climate change adaptation, and leadership in the public and political spheres.

Cambodia and India are going to officially launch the ‘1st Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024’ on June 17, 2024, at the Shangri-La Eros Hotel in New Delhi, Republic of India.

Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Sok Soken, will lead a delegation consisted of delegates from the ministry, the private sector, and cultural artists from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, to attend the launching ceremony, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The delegation will travel via the first direct flight between Phnom Penh and New Delhi, operated by Cambodia Angkor Air, the national flag carrier of Cambodia, which will commence on June 16, the source pointed out.

Initially, there will be four flights per week, with plans to increase the frequency to seven flights per week by the end of the year.

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this morning paid a field visit to the construction site of drainage and flood prevention system project in Phnom Penh and satellite areas.

During the visit, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met and talked with construction workers and some people living along the project area.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet delivered a short speech saying that this is a big project that will provide a lot of benefits to the people despite some challenges.

According to the Ministry of Water Resource and Meteorology, the project, which kicked off in December 2023, has now achieved at 76 percent and is expected to complete in August 2024 for phases 1 and 2.

The project includes the restoration of ten canals with a total length of 260 kilometres, the construction of four pumping stations equipped with 27 pumping machines, and so on.
