Cambodian Commerce Delegation Visits Germany’s Federal Cartel Office


A Cambodian delegation led by H.E. BUON Sarakmony, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, and the Permanent Vice Chair of the Cambodia Competition Commission (CCC), participated in an official study visit to the Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt), Germany’s competition agency, in Bonn, Germany this morning.

The delegation is composed by members of the CCC and officials of the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression (CCF).

According to the Ministry of Commerce, with the support of the GIZ Cambodia, this official study visit was organised for the purpose of acquiring knowledge and experience directly from the above competing agency, focusing on in-depth understanding of the best practices in the organisational structure and effective implementation of the competition law, as well as strengthening cooperation between the two agencies.

Addressing at the opening remarks, H.E. Secretary of State expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Frank Tibitanzl, COMPETE
Project Director of GIZ for facilitating the study visit and Prof. Konrad Ost, Deputy Chairman of the Bundeskartellamt, for providing the CCC with an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge and experience from a developed agency. This will enable the CCC to enhance its work processes and become more efficient.

During the visit, representatives from the Bundeskartellamt shared their expertise and insights through presentations on various topics with CEC members, including Structure of the Bundeskartellamt; Horizontal agreement/Cartels: use of economic evidence and presenting economic evidence in Horizontal agreements/Cartel Cases to Decision Makers and Judges, Leniency, Exceptions etc.; Business combinations/Merger Control; Abuses of Market Dominance Position; and Cooperation with other/competition agencies.

Korea Embassy Hosts 2024 K-POP World Festival Preliminaries in Cambodia


As part of the 2024 Korea Week celebrations, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cambodia successfully held the Cambodia preliminaries of the K-POP World Festival on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at The Olympia Mall in downtown Phnom Penh.

This event, organised by K’ve Entertainment, was generously sponsored by eight companies, to ensure a vibrant and successful event.

The K-POP World Festival Cambodia preliminaries served as a cultural exchange platform to showcase the passionate love for K-POP.

A total of 33 teams and over 70 participants applied for the competition, out of which 12 teams advanced to the stage after the initial screening. These teams demonstrated exceptional passion and talent, showcasing impressive performances in a fiercely competitive environment.

Ultimately, the group ‘The Bling’ emerged victorious, demonstrating a captivating stage presence and exceptional skills. ‘Spicy Names’ secured the second place with outstanding choreography and vocal abilities, while ‘Emperor’ took the thir
d place. Winners of this competition will earn the opportunity to participate in the 13th K-POP World Festival global Finals auditions to be held in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The group ‘The Bling’, which won first place in this event, achieved first prize after participating in the K-Pop World Festival for three consecutive years, expressing that their passion and efforts for K-Pop have finally paid off, and emphasised the importance of continuing challenges without giving up.

Four Appointed New Provincial Governors, Four Moved to Other Provinces


His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, appointed four new provincial governors and moved four to other provinces, according to separate royal decrees dated June 24.

H.E. Mang Sineth, former Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province; H.E. Sor Soputra, former Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu province; and H.E. Mean Chanyada and H.E. Nuon Pharoth, former Deputy Governors of Phnom Penh capital, were appointed Governor of Preah Sihanouk, Stung Treng, Oddar Meanchey and Kampong Thom provinces, respectively.

At the same time, H.E. Vey Samnang, former Governor of Kampong Speu province; H.E. Kuoch Chamroeun, former Governor of Preah Sihanouk province; H.E. Cheam Chansophorn, former Governor of Thbong Khmum province; and H.E. Pen Kosal, former Governor of Oddar Meanchey province, became Governors of Takeo, Kandal, Kampong Speu and Thbong Khmum provinces, respectively.

Besides, H.E. Kong Sophorn, former Governor of Kandal province; H.E. Ouch Phea, former Governor of Takeo
province; H.E. Svay Sam Eang, former Governor of Stung Treng province; and H.E. Nguon Rattanak, former Governor of Kampong Thom province, were transferred to be Secretaries of State at the Ministry of Interior.
