2nd National Games: Interior Ministry Ranks First

The Ministry of Interior won most of the medals during the 2nd National Games held from May 25 to June 4, 2018.

According to the results, the ministry got 149 of the total 885 medals of which 83 gold, 43 silver and 23 bronze. The Phnom Penh Municipality came in second with 124 medals � 42 gold, 36 silver and 46 bronze � followed by the Ministry of National Defence with 67 medals � 33 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze � and the province of Kandal with 78 medals � 12 gold, 23 silver and 43 bronze.

The 2nd National Games was wrapped up here yesterday evening in a solemn ceremony under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen.

The 2nd National Games attracted in total 4,163 athletes of 27 sports from the 25 provinces and capital and the Ministries of Interior, National Defence, and Economy and Finance to compete in 274 games.

The National Games are held every two years to prepare the Cambodian athletes toward the SEA Games 2023 to be hosted by Cambodia.

This regional competition is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh capital city and in some provinces including Kampot, Kep, Takeo, Siem Reap, Battambang and Kampong Cham from Dec. 1 to 15, 2023. The two-week-long event is expected to attract about 10,000 delegates, of them 7,000 are athletes.

The draft master plan toward hosting the 32nd SEA Games has already been approved by the Cambodian cabinet meeting.

The Kingdom is committed to win at least 30 percent or one third of the total gold medals of 300 at this regional sports event.
