30-MW Solar Power Station to Generate Power Later This Year

A 30-MW solar power station in Banteay Meanchey province is scheduled to generate power for the grid in late 2020, supplying mostly the province.
H.E. Oum Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, said at a press conference here on June 4 that power from the under-construction solar power station will contribute to responding to the demand for power of the province, particularly of Poipet city, an investment hub.

The province’s current power demand is about 100 MW, he said, adding that most power supplied in the province is imported from Thailand.

The 30-MW solar power station is invested by Ray Power Supply Co., Ltd. with a total investment capital of US$28.8 million.
H.E. Victor Jona, Director-General of Energy at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said that the new power source will contribute to supplying the increasing power consumption by people and investment projects.
“With the new power source, the capacity of power supply for nationwide consumption is enhanced,” H.E. Victor Jona stressed.
Currently, Cambodia has two operational solar stations – a 10-MW solar farm in Svay Rieng province and an 80-MW solar farm in Kampong Speu province.
Last year, the Kingdom consumed a total of 12,014.59 million kWh, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent.
