309 Cambodian Blue Helmet Troops To Depart for Mali Soon

Some 309 Cambodian blue helmet troops will depart Cambodia later this month to fulfill their one-year UN peacekeeping mission in Mali.

The information was made known yesterday by Major General Huot Kimsan, Director of the Training School for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces in Kampong Speu province, during the visit of a delegation of the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance (NPMEC) to the school.

The 309 soldiers are from Airfield Engineering Unit No. 189 and UXO destruction Unit No. 123, he pointed out.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director-General of NPMEC, shared experience on missions in African continent, especially in Mali.

Since 2006, Cambodia has sent a total of 3,960 troops – 166 of them are women – for the UN peacekeeping operations in Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Chad, Syria, Lebanon, Mali and Cyprus.
