60 Percent of Drivers Found Using Mobile Phone When Driving

About 60 percent of drivers in Cambodia have been found using phone during driving one of the main causes leading to fatal road accidents.

The finding was highlighted in a recent study conducted by the AIP Foundation in Phnom Penh capital and Kampong Speu province.

Speaking of the report during the launch of a campaign to discourage mobile phone use when driving held here early this week, Mr. Kim Pagna, Country Director of AIP Foundation, underlined that traffic accident is the most fatal incident in Cambodia, particularly among people aged 15 to 29.

According to the survey, over 50 percent of students interviewed used mobile phone especially smartphone when driving, as internet connection is easily accessible.

From the government's side, Public Works and Transport Secretary of State H.E. Men Manavy appreciated the campaign with optimism that it will contribute to addressing the cause of road accidents.
