A French Senior Official in Charge of Culture, Education and Research Visits Cambodia

The Visiting Director of Culture, Education, Research and Network Coordination at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France of Mrs. Laurence Auer paid her visit Cambodia from Dec 14-17, 2017, according to a press release from French Embassy.

Mrs. Laurence Auer paid her visit to Cambodia in order to attend the plenary session of the International Coordination Committee of Angkor as well as the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Angkor’s inscription as a World Heritage Site of Unesco.

She visited the restoration worksite of the western Mebon temple that France finances in partnership with the National Authority APSARA and that also serves as a training site for Cambodian specialists in conservation and restoration.

During her stay in Cambodia, she had an audience with His Majesty the King Norodom Sihamoni as well as with H.E. Ms Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport.

Mrs Auer visited the University of Health Sciences which has been at the center of many cooperation projects between France and Cambodia for the past 25 years. She met representatives of academic and scientific circles as well as students who belonged to French Cambodian university programs or went to study in France. She also met several cultural cooperation partners.

She reaffirmed France’s attachment to the cooperation with Cambodia in the fields of education, scientific and academic partnerships, research, health, culture and heritage.
