A Mekong Dolphin Found Dead in Kratie Province

A Mekong river dolphin has been found dead at Anlong Preah Sang in Sambok village, Sambok Commune, Chetr Borey district of Kratie province.

According to wildlife conservation organisation World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the dead dolphin was found on Nov. 12 by local fishermen and then reported to concerned authority.

The carcass dolphin is female, weighs 110 kilogrammes and is 227 centimetres long, said the source.

A necropsy from the joint research team of Fisheries Administration and WWF indicated that the cause of the death was gill-nets strapping the dolphin’s tail.

This is the sixth dolphins found dead (2 calves, 4 adults) from January 2019 up to now, and there were nine baby dolphins born during the same period.
