Acting Head of State Speaks Highly of Women’s Contribution to Development

President of the Senate, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, spoke highly of women's contribution to Cambodia's development as well as poverty reduction.

Samdech Say Chhum made the remarks in his role as the acting head of state who granted an audience to a delegation of 165 female leaders at the senate office here in Phnom Penh early this week.

Women, said the acting head of state, have actively engaged in the implementation of the government's policies in a cooperative and responsible manner in order to develop Cambodia, promote livelihood and reduce poverty.

He added that he himself and the legislative body under his supervision will continue to support and encourage women as well as the Ministry of Women's Affairs to bring their contribution to the next level.

According to Minister of Women's Affairs H.E. Ms. Ing Kantha Phavi who led the delegation for the meeting, women make up 45.3 percent in agriculture, 37.4 percent in industry, and 35.4 in services.

While acknowledging the support by the Royal Government of Cambodia for women, H.E. Ms. Ing Kantha Phavi called for the participation of people at all levels in peaceful resolution to issues and democracy development.

The audience granted by Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum to the delegation of the female leaders symbolised an official observance of the International Women's Day 2017 themed "Women for Peace and Progress".
