Acting President of Opposition Party Granted Royal Pardon

His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, signed here today on a Royal Decree to grant Acting President of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) H.E. Kem Sokha royal pardon.

This royal pardon was made at the request of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen after receiving a letter dated Dec. 1 from H.E. Kem Sokha asking the premier to consider requesting His Majesty the King for a royal pardon for him.

In September this year, H.E. Kem Sokha was sentenced to five months in prison and a fine of 800,000 Riel (Cambodian currency roughly US$200) for not having appeared in court.

H.E. Kem Sokha, who has been hiding at the CNRP's headquarters since May 26, did not show up at the court's summons twice to answer to questions related to a sex scandal case.
