AFD Provides 500,000 Euros to Support a Vocational Training Programme in Cambodia

The French Agency for Development (AFD) signed on Monday with the NGO ” Agir pour le Cambodge ” a grant agreement for an amount of 500,000 Euros to support the hospitality vocational training programme of SalaBaA School located in Siem Reap province, Cambodia.

Mr. Philippe Steinmetz , AFD Country Director for Cambodia, and Mrs. Emmanuelle Dethomas, President of Agir pour le Cambodge, signed this agreement in the school premises under the presidency of H.E. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, French Ambassador to Cambodia.

According to a press release of the Embassy of France, this financing will allow the school to diversify its curricula and to train 150 students per year as from the 2018-2019 scholar year instead of 100 currently.

In 14 years, more than 1,300 young Cambodians having an underprivileged background, 70 percent out of them are female, have received a quality vocational training for careers in hospitality and catering. The SalaBaA diploma is stamped and recognised by both the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Tourism.

This new financing has been granted in the framework of a large intervention of AFD towards vocational training in Cambodia, in particular in garment and tourism.

Since 1993, AFD has awarded more than 435 million Euros in total project funding to Cambodia, including 60 million Euros in 2016, to support Cambodia in its social and economic development.
