Agong and Raja Permaisuri Congratulate Tony Fernandes and Celebrate Major Abdul Manan Abas’s Centennial

Agong, Malaysia – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have extended their congratulations to Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A Berhad, for securing the Best Asia Pacific CEO award at the 2023 Asia Pacific Aviation 100 awards by Airline Economics in Singapore. This win represents a significant milestone for the Malaysian aviation industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Agong lauded Fernandes’s win as a reflection of his remarkable achievements in the Asia Pacific aviation sector. The award underscores Malaysia’s capability in nurturing talents who embody international standards of excellence and vision.

In parallel, the King and Queen also congratulated Maj (R) Abdul Manan Abas on his 100th birthday on November 1st. A separate Instagram post from Their Majesties highlighted their joy in Abdul Manan’s continued good health and the chance to celebrate this significant occasion with his family.

Abdul Manan, a trailblazer in Malaysian military history, was the first Malaysian to be accepted into the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in London, UK, in 1950. Following his enlistment in the Malaysian Army in 1947, he underwent training as a Cadet Officer at RMAS and was eventually commissioned, serving until his retirement in 1969.

Al-Sultan Abdullah, who also trained at RMAS, expressed his wishes for Abdul Manan’s ongoing health and prosperity. Abdul Manan, hailing from Selangor, was awarded the Military Cross by the British Armed Forces for his valiant leadership in a mission against a communist unit in Raub, Pahang. The medal was presented by the then British High Commissioner to Malaya, Sir Donald MacGillivray, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II of England.
