Agriculture Minister Highlights Agricultural Development in Past Five Year

Cambodia's agricultural field has seen a noticeable progress during the last five years, said here yesterday Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Veng Sakon at the Forum on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The paddy production has increased from 9.29 million tons in 2012 to 9.82 million tons in 2016, and the figure is expected to reach around 10.27 million tons in 2017, he pointed out

H.E. Minister also underlined the key role of agricultural mechanisation to fill in the lack of labour force. According to the data, he added, the use of agricultural machinery soared into 93 percent.

H.E. Veng Sakhon laid stress on the rise of cultivation land areas for subsidiary and industrial crops from 0.91 million hectares in 2012 to over 1 million hectares in 2016 with the yields of 10.85 million tons and 16.77 million tons, respectively.

The export of agricultural products, he said, has also surged in the past five years to 4.7 million tons in 2016, up from over 680,000 tons in 2012.
