Air Passengers Reach 1.13 Million in First Eight Months

Cambodia recorded 1.13 million air passengers in the January-August period of this year, a 600 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation’s report showed on Friday.
The figure, however, dropped by 76 percent compared to the same period in 2019, the pre-Covid-19 period.
H.E. Sin Chansereyvutha, Under Secretary of State at the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, attributed the significant increase in the number of air passengers to the country’s reopening of borders to all travellers without quarantine since last November.
“The significant increase in the number of passengers is a sign showing that Cambodia is returning to pre-pandemic growth,” he said at a press conference at the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit.
A number of 25 airlines had operated about 15,521 flights to the Kingdom’s three international airports during the January-August period this year, up 123 percent compared to the same period in 2021, the report pointed out.
Cambodia recorded 38,783 tonnes as air cargo during the first eight months of this year, a 10.7 percent decline year-on-year, read the report.
