Angkor Sangkranta 2017 Kicks Off

The Angkor Sangkranta 2017, organised on the occasion of the Khmer Traditional New Year from April 14 to 16, began this morning in Siem Reap provincial city.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen presided over the opening ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the premier reiterated the significance of peace for the socio-economic development in Cambodia.

As a United Nations member state, Cambodia would like to express her deepest concern over the situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria and North Korea, and called for utmost restraint and peaceful resolutions through negotiations, he said.

Cambodia used to be a victim of war, therefore we know clearly the difficulties of people living in those war-torn countries, added Samdech Techo Hun Sen, appealing all his compatriots to join hands with him in maintaining peace so that Cambodia sees more and more progress.

Angkor Sangkranta is organised annually to celebrate the Khmer Traditional New Year in Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples. It is aimed to show off the solidarity of the Cambodian family as a whole and to contribute to maintaining Cambodian tradition, culture and custom.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister spoke highly of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) for successfully organising the Angkor Sangkranta since 2013.
