Ateneo, Perpetual hunt for first win

Reeling Ateneo de Manila University and University of Perpetual Help hunt for their first win and a chance to remain in contention for a quarterfinals slot in Group A of the 13th V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Monday.

Both teams are looking to end a two-game losing skid and avoid an early trip to the exit door.

Game time is at 6:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/vleague.

The Lady Eagles are struggling to find their rhythm and are still adjusting in their game without Alyssa Valdez. The Katipunan-based squad is coming off a 23-25, 22-25, 23-25, loss to San Sebastian last August 6.

This game will be a test of character for the Lady Eagles after a painful experience in their last game where Ateneo squandered a 23-10 lead in the third set as they watched the Lady Stags mounts a closing 15-0 rally.

Ateneo need to double its efforts as Jhoanna Maraguinot is expected to remain on the sideline because of an abdominal strain. Pauline Gaston, Michelle Morente, Kim Gequillana and Jules Samonte need to work together to bring the fire back for the Lady Eagles.

Perpetual is in the same slump as Ateneo.

The Lady Altas are yet to win a single set in the tournament and are coming off a brutal 16-25, 13-25, 15-25 beating last Wednesday from Technological Institute of the Philippines.

Perpetual gave away 21 aces and 22 points off errors to the Lady Engineers in a forgettable outing.

Lourdes Clemente, Cindy Imbo and Coleen Bravo need to get their acts together for the Las Pinas-based squad to avoid further embarrassment.
