Australia Calls for Surrogacy Law in Cambodia

The Australian government has expressed its intention to assist Cambodia in studying the possibility of creating a law on surrogacy.

The information was made known here late last week by Spokesperson of the Ministry of Justice H.E. Kim Santepheap after a courtesy meeting between Cambodian Minister of Justice H.E. Ang Vong Vathana and newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Ms. Angela Corcoran.

In the meeting, the Australian diplomat said she will work to support Cambodia in enhancing justice system in Cambodia and asked the Ministry of Justice to view all legal aspects related to surrogacy law drafting plan for future demand, the spokesperson said.

For his part, H.E. Ang Vong Vathana welcomed the project of providing training and technical assistance to Cambodia’s law sector, adding that the ministry will set up a technical working group to study the proposal to create the surrogacy law.
