Boxer Waseem meets Gen Aamer

Pakistani boxer Mohammad Waseem on Friday met Commander Southern Command Lt. General Aamer Riaz in Quetta.

The commander congratulated the boxer on his outstanding success on an international level.

'Talented and hardworking youngsters such as Waseem are the real identity of Pakistan,' he said.

Lt.Gen Riaz also said that Balochistan's youth are talented, adding that he sees a bright future for them.

He also presented the boxer with awards.

Waseem had returned to Pakistan on Thursday, after winning the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Flyweight title in Seoul, against Philippines' Jether Oliva.

Upon his return, the boxer had lamented the lack of support he received from the government in his journey to fame.

"I started my career in Korea, my promoter is a Korean and has spent a great amount of money on me but he too says that I am a Pakistani and that my government should be the one to support me," Waseem said.

Waseem, who hails from Quetta, prepared for the fight under famous trainer Jeff Mayweather at the boxing club of renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather Junior in Las Vegas. Jeff is the uncle of Floyd Mayweather Junior, one of the world's greatest boxers of his time.

He said while in Pakistan he had begged the Boxing Federation for ten months but did not receive any help from them. He added that he spent a year in the United States paying for his training.

Despite the lack of support from his government, boxer Mohammad Waseem has won the country many accolades on international forums.

Speaker, Balochistan Assembly, Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani met with internationally known legend Pakistani boxer, Muhammad Waseem upon his arrival in Quetta.

Boxer, Muhammad Waseem who belongs to Quetta has recently won Silver Medal in World Boxing Council and he returned back to the country. Ms. Durrani congratulated Mr. Waseem for winning an honor for the country.

On the occasion, she directed Director Sports to bring the boxer at her chamber at the Balochistan Assembly premises so that the legend boxer could be accorded a warm welcome by her and the assembly staff.
