Buddhist Monk Congress Concluded

Congress of Cambodian Buddhist monks was concluded in late January with measures to promote Buddhism and religious harmony in Cambodia.

Organised at Chaktomuk Conference Hall here in Phnom Penh, the gathering of Buddhist monk leaders led to actions to boost quality of religious teaching and practice in a way that promotes peace and harmony.

The leadership of Cambodian Buddhist monks appreciated the support by the Royal Government of Cambodia to standardise the wages for teaching staff of Buddhism, which will significantly contribute to more effective capacity building among monks and religious practitioners.

Meanwhile, it came a call for tree planting and protection of forests as well as the nature, especially at Buddhist temples as well as pagoda to set a good example across the country.

In order to maintain peace and harmony, formation of new sect is discouraged while clearly defined local management structure of monks and Buddhism practitioners is encouraged.
