Cambodia Airports Handles 6.2 Million Passengers in 11 Months of 2016

Cambodia Airports received more than 6.2 million passengers and 66,000 flights movements from January to November 2016, an increase of 7.5 percent and 3.6 percent respectively compared to the same period in 2015, pointed out a press release made public yesterday.

According to the press release, Cargo tonnage increased by 23.6 percent to 42,842 tons due to the continued increase in regular and charter freighter.

With more investments from China and other countries, Phnom Penh International Airport received more than 316,000 passengers in November 2016, an increase of 12 percent, while Siem Reap International Airport handled more than 343,000 passengers, growing 11 percent year-on-year due to additional daily flight from Phuket by Thai Air Asia.

Passenger traffic at Sihanouk International Airport continued to increase by 229.3 percent to 21,756 passengers, spurred by ongoing international flights.

29 percent of the total visitors travelling through Phnom Penh International Airport are from China while 23 percent are from Thailand. Siem Reap International Airport received similar pattern with 26 percent from China, 21 percent from Vietnam and 18 percent from Thailand.

Phnom Penh International Airport handled more than 2,900 flight movements, an increase of 6.7 percent year-on-year. Although domestic travel continued to decline against last year, international numbers maintained a steady growth.

Siem Reap significantly grew 6.1 percent to more than 3,600 movements as the airport welcomed daily flight of Thai Air Asia from Phuket.

The additional charters from China brought the flight movements in Sihanouk International Airport to 372, an increase of 165.7 percent.

Cargo tonnage in Phnom Penh Cargo Terminal continued to grow at 42.8 percent while Siem Reap Airport Cargo Terminal handled 0.86 percent more cargo compared to November 2015.
