The national flag carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air, launched its first direct flight between Cambodia and India on June 16, which will enhance connectivity and air transport between the two nations.
The launching event was held at the VIP Terminal of Phnom Penh International Airport, under the presidency of H.E. Sante Pundit Neth Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee, H.E. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, H.E Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism, H.E Mrs. Devyani Khobragade, Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, and relevant stakeholders in the aviation and tourism sectors.
The airline offers four weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
The new flight route is poised for success due to the shared religious heritage, healthcare needs, and historical ties between Cambodia and India, the airline said, stressing that this connection will not only boost tourism but also foster deeper cultural and economic relat
ions between both nations.
H.E. Sante Pundit Neth Savoeun highlighted that the direct flight will contribute to enhancing trade activities and air transport between the two countries.
‘This inaugural direct flight will significantly promote the social, cultural, and economic ties between Cambodia and India,’ he said.
Coinciding with the Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024, this new route is expected to significantly boost tourist arrivals in both countries.
Figures from the Ministry of Tourism showed that Cambodia welcomed 20,560 Indian tourists in the first three months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 25 percent.
