Cambodia Appreciates Canada’s Assistance in Mine-Clearance

Cambodia has lauded Canada’s assistance and technical support in demining activities in Cambodia and called for further contribution from Canada toward achieving the goal of “mine-free Cambodia by 2025”.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, made the appreciation in a bilateral meeting with The Honorable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development of Canada, on Aug. 5, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh, according to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Both sides noted with satisfaction the positive trajectory of the bilateral trade as Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn expressed his sincere thanks to Canada for maintaining her GSP for Cambodia.

DPM Prak Sokhonn and Honorable Ng agreed to work closely to enhance the good bonds of friendship between the two countries and advance the broad range of shared bilateral, regional, and global interests. Both sides concurred to organise important events to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between the two countries this year.

On ASEAN-Canada relations, DPM Prak Sokhonn appreciated Canada’s full support for Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN. Both sides also touched on the participation of Canadian Prime Minister in the ASEAN Summit later this year, ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement, and Canada’s proposal to elevate its status to a Strategic Partnership.
