Cambodia Asks France for Tramway Feasibility Study in Phnom Penh

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has requested the French Development Agency (AFD) to review the feasibility study for a tramway system in Phnom Penh to help reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

The request was made during a working meeting on May 3 between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, and H.E. Jacques Pellet, Ambassador of France to Cambodia, accompanied by Ms. Ophelie Bourhis, AFD Country Director, and some other stakeholders.

H.E. Sun Chanthol laid stress on the road connectivity in Cambodia and briefed his guests on major infrastructure development projects, including the master plan for road infrastructure development, water transport master plan, railway transport plan, logistics master plan and feasibility studies of automated guideway transit (AGT), subway and monorail operating systems.

In the meeting, Cambodia and France announced their joint commitment to further strengthen closer cooperation between Cambodia and AFD.
