Cambodia Asks Laos to Accelerate Border Marker Planting

Cambodian National Assembly (NA) President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin has urged the Lao government to speed up the border marker planting between the two countries.

While meeting with visiting President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith at the NA Palace on Wednesday afternoon, Samdech Heng Samrin encouraged the Cambodian and Lao sides to solve the remaining issues as soon as possible in order to accelerate border marker planting so as to transform the common border into an area of peace, friendship and development, H.E. Keo Piseth, Director of Cabinet of the NA president told reporters after the meeting.

Samdech Heng Samrin also expressed warm welcome to the Lao president’s visit, which, he said, will further tighten the relations and cooperation between the two nations and peoples.

The NA president highly valued the growing relations between the two neighbouring countries, mainly in the fields of economy, trade, politics.

For his part, H.E Bounnhang Vorachith voiced his support to Samdech Heng Samrin’s request and pledged to encourage the Cambodian-Lao Joint Border Committee to solve as soon as possible the remaining issues related to border marker planting.

Cambodia and Laos share a common border of 540 kilometres with about 145 border markers, and so far, 83 percent or 121 border markers have been already planted.
