Cambodia Attracts 5 Million Foreign Tourists in 2016

Some 5 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia last year, up 5 percent compared with 2015, said H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, at the Stocktaking Conference on Tourism Industry for 2016 and Direction Setting for 2017, held here on Jan. 24.

With this amount of foreign arrivals, Cambodia earned over US$3 billion as state revenue, equal to 13 percent of GDP, pointed H.E. Minister, attributing the increase in the number of foreign visitors to Cambodia to peace, development, and political stability, along with the promotion policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Tourism sector created direct jobs for about 620,000 people, equal to 13 percent of total labor force, and ten thousands of indirect jobs, the minister said.

Cambodia expects to attract around 7 million foreign tourists by 2020.
