Cambodia, Belarus Look for More Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodia’s Secretary of State of Commerce H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang received here yesterday at the ministry H.E. Vladimir Goshin, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to the ministry’s news release, both leaders mainly discussed the bilateral trade between the two countries.

H.E. Vladimir Goshin said current bilateral trade of Cambodia and Belarus is tiny, and encouraged both countries to work closely to expand the trade volume up to US$200 million by 2020.

H.E. Vladimir also laid stress on Belarus’s interest to the Cambodian natural rubber suppliers due to the lack of supply from Vietnam, which is a good opportunity for Cambodia.

For her part, H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang requested the ambassador to organising business matching and business forums through the Chambers of Commerce of the two nations so that the investors can find out business opportunities, challenges, and investment-related laws to meet their interests.

H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang also proposed the representatives of Minsk’s Automobile Plant choosing Cambodia as the production base to supply local and ASEAN markets, as well as European market, using “Everything but Arms (EBA)”, a preferential treatment given by the EU.

H.E. Vladimir Goshin thanked H.E. Secretary of State for sharing with him the useful information, and he pledged to study the feasibility to organise the Second Joint Committee Meeting on Trade and Investment mid next year in Belarus.
