Cambodia Breaks Ground on Oil Refinery Construction Project in Preah Sihanouk Province

A US$1,620 million oil refinery was broken ground in Preah Sihanouk province on May 4 with the capacity of producing 5 million tons of oil a year.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in Prek Toal village, Tek Thla commune of Prey Nup district under the presidency of H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s Facebook page, the construction project was invested by Cambodian Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Chinese investors.

The construction is divided into two phases � the first one will last from May 2017 to mid-2019 with an investment capital of US$620 millions and capacity of producing 2 million tons of oil a year for local consumption, while the second would begin in 2022 with an investment capital of US$1,000 million and yearly production capacity of 3 million tons of oil for local and foreign markets.
