Cambodia Calls for Chinese Support of Riel Currency in E-Commerce

Cambodia has requested the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK) Phnom Penh Branch to support the use of its Riel currency in e-commerce through e-payment and QR Code.

Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak yesterday told BOCHK Vice Executive Director Mr. Wang Bing that such support would help foster trade facilitation and strengthen economic and investment bonds between the two countries.

The Minister also requested Mr. Wang Bing for the possibility of a joint venture to construct silos at main provinces of Cambodia for long-term storage of agricultural products and to give loans to farmers, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The Chinese part, Mr. Wang Bing, welcomed the requests and informed the minister about some of his strategic plans to attract more Chinese investments into Cambodia, in accordance with One Belt One Road Initiative of the Chinese president.
