Cambodia Exports 128,111 tons of Rubber Latex in 2016

Cambodia exported a total of 128,111 tons of rubber latex last year, pointed out the annual report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The figure shows a slight increase compared to 128,047 tons in 2015, it added.

H.E. Lor Raksmey, Spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, said the total land area for rubber plantation has increased sharply, but most of them have just started the plantation while others have been re-used for other crops because of the drop in rubber latex price during recent years.

"Due to low price, some farmers and investors of economic land concessions have replaced rubber trees by other crops," said H.E. Lor Raksmey.

The total land area for rubber plantation in 2016 rose to about 400,000 hectares, up from around 111,000 hectares in 2015.
