Cambodia Hosts 8th GMS Economic Corridors Forum

The 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Corridors Forum (ECF-8) was held in Phnom Penh last week under the theme “Strengthening Connectivity and Enhancing Competitiveness in the GMS Economic Corridors.”

H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Cambodia GMS Minister, and Mr. James Nugent, Director General of ADB Southeast Asia Department, co-presided over the two-day event.

Ministers from GMS countries (Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam), officials from concerned institutions, local and provincial authorities, and representatives of development partners and private sector also attended the forum.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of the meeting, H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea said the forum discussed the ways of expending economic corridors to boost economic growth while many countries in Asia have been experiencing slow economic growth.

The development of economic corridors is very significant for the economic growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion and the strengthening of economic cooperation along main corridors will help to create jobs, increase trade, and boost the economic development in the region.
