Cambodia Hosts Preparatory Meeting for 42nd ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting

The preparatory meeting for the 42nd ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting was held here on Monday with discussions on Cambodia’s current economic policy, business opportunities and ASEAN connectivity.

The meeting was organized by Mr. Koichi Kawana, Chairman of the Steering Committee, and Mr. Phu Sae Tong, President/CEO Anco Brothers Co., Ltd., and presided over by H.E. Kem Sithan, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, according to the ministry’s news release.

H.E. Kem Sithan informed the meeting of the current economic policy in Cambodia, resulting in substantial economic growth. Various sectors have been diversified, opening up many opportunities for investment, he said.

The Cambodian secretary of state also laid stress on the Ministry of Commerce’s reform by improving different services including Online Business Registration, Online Certificate of Origin, and Online searching of Trademark.

Cambodia is currently witnessing a rapid expansion of road, rail, sea and air transport links, economic corridors, special economic zones and socio-economic development in Cambodia as a whole, he added.

At the same time, H.E. Kem Sithan mentioned about the concept of the Cambodian master plan on ASEAN connectivity which is a comprehensive plan designed to support the establishment of AEC through development of physical infrastructure, effective institutional connectivity and people-to-people connectivity.

Indeed, he said, ASEAN’s improved connectivity not only reduces the cost of doing business and transport’s time and cost, but also helps to enhance cooperation among ASEAN Member States and ASEAN’s centrality in the region as well as distribution of the fruits of growth in the region which will contribute to the reduction of development gap in the ASEAN.
