Cambodia Imports 160,000 Tons of Agricultural Fertilizers in Q1

In the first three months of this year, Cambodia imported more than 160,000 tons of agricultural fertilizers, according to H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery.

Speaking a recent workshop in Phnom Penh, H.E. Veng Sakhon said the importation of agricultural fertilizers has seen a dramatic increase because of the progress of agricultural production.

In last four years, the quantity of agricultural fertilizer import authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries grew from 701,000 tons in 2012 to 797,955 tons in 2015, he pointed out.

At the same time, pesticide import also increased from 10,500 tons in 2012 to 28,524 tons in 2015 while in the first quarter of this year, it reached 11,792 tons, H.E. Minister added.

H.E. Veng Sakhon further expressed his concern over the pesticide and agricultural fertilizer management and use so that farmers get real benefits from the use and are able to compete in local and foreign markets.
