Cambodia, Indonesia to Work Together to Promote ASEAN

Cambodia Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here this morning Indonesian Foreign Minister H.E. Ms. Retno L.P. Marsudi who is on a two-day (Nov. 30-Dec. 1) official visit in Cambodia.
H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, told reporters after the courtesy meeting that Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Indonesian foreign minister discussed ways to further improve and promote the ASEAN’s value.
During the meeting held at the Peace Palace, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his congratulations to the existing cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia and recalled the latter’s active contribution to the peace building process in Cambodia in 1980s until the conclusion of the Paris Peace Agreement in 1991.
As Cambodia will assume the ASEAN chairmanship while Indonesia the presidency of G20 in 2022, both sides also discussed various issues of common interest such as the fight against COVID-19, regional health as Cambodia has just announced more anti-COVID-19 support for Laos, Timor-Leste’s membership in ASEAN, Myanmar’s crisis, as well as the Indo-Pacific Perspectives, ASEAN connectivity, South China Sea issue, and so on.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s support for Timor-Leste’s membership in ASEAN. For the Indo-Pacific Perspectives, he added, Cambodia backs all initiatives for peace and development without confrontation with any countries, and more importantly supports the core values of ASEAN.
On South China Sea issue, the Prime Minister said Cambodia is committed for the conclusion of the Code of Conduct (COC) in South China Sea at an appropriate time.
Overall, this morning’s discussion had fruitful results: strengthening of bilateral cooperation and partnership between Cambodia and Indonesia, and promotion of cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia on ASEAN work that will be the core task for Cambodia when it holds the ASEAN chairmanship in 2022.
