Cambodia Intends to Strengthen Trade Relations with Timor Leste

Cambodian Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak has expressed Cambodia’s intention to promote private sector cooperation as well as to strengthen trade relations with Timor-Leste, while meeting with Minister of Economy, Agriculture and Fisheries of Timor-Leste, H.E. Estanislau Alexo Da Silva, on Tuesday in Siem Reap province.

H.E. Minister thus suggested the Timor-Leste side to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) in May, stressing that the MoU will help facilitate the exchange of experience and strengthen export capacity of private sector as well as development and dissemination of the tourism industry.

According to H.E. Pan Sorasak, Timor-Leste has agreed to buy 200,000 tons of Cambodian milled rice annually although both countries have not signed the MoU yet.

In reply, H.E. Estanislau Alexo Da Silva pledged to bring the suggestion for further discussion with his government and thanked the Ministry of Commerce and the Royal Government of Cambodia for sharing good experience and supporting Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN and WTO.
