Cambodia, Japan Speak Highly of Bilateral Ties

AKP Phnom Penh, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Japanese Foreign Minister H.E. Hayashi Yoshimasa, lauded the good relationship between the two countries, during their meeting here at the Peace Palace this morning.

H.E. Hayashi Yoshimasa said he will continue to work together with his Cambodian counterpart H.E. Prak Sokhonn to further boost Cambodia-Japan relations and cooperation, mainly in the fields of economy, investment, national defence, and other areas.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the Government and people of Japan for their assistance for the development of Cambodia as well as for the donation in COVID-19 vaccines which contributed importantly to Cambodia’s success in containing the pandemic and in resuming its socio-economic activities.

The meeting also touched on the Myanmar issue, Russia-Ukraine war, and other issues of common interest.

Following the courtesy meeting, Samdech Techo Prime Minister witnessed the signing ceremony of the Exchange of Notes and related documents on the extension of a Yen Loan amounting to 41,388,000,000 yen for the Sihanoukville Port New Container Terminal Expansion Project (I) between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Hayashi Yoshimasa, Foreign Minister of Japan; and the Loan Agreement for the above-mentioned project between H.E. Hem Vanndy, Secretary of State, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cambodia, and Ms. Kamei Haruko, Chief Representative of JICA Cambodia Office.

This loan will substantially contribute to the expansion and modernisation of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and the transformation of the port into a principal deep-sea port for Cambodia and in the region in line with the commitment made by the Prime Ministers of the two countries earlier this year.
