Cambodia, Japan to Resume Programme for Young Cambodian Politicians

The Governments of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Japan will resume the programme for young Cambodian politicians, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resumption was agreed on during the official working visit of H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to Japan from Jan. 21-24, 2023, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“In the bilateral meeting, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to resume the programme to gain understanding of the multiparty democratic process in Japan, and expressed their commitment to uphold the existing Dialogue on Human Rights between the two countries,” the source said.

Both top diplomats also positively considered upgrading the current Bilateral Consultation mechanism from Senior Officials level to Deputy Ministers level.

Besides, H.E. Prak Sokhonn and his Japanese counterpart H.E. HAYASHI Yoshimasa expressed their appreciation for all existing cooperation in different areas.

Aside from bilateral cooperation, the two Ministers expressed satisfaction on the ongoing trilateral cooperation in demining for Ukraine, and agreed to expand such collaboration to other third countries on humanitarian ground.

They also brought up multilateral cooperation and agreed to further boost partnership and cooperation in particular under the United Nations and the ASEAN frameworks.
